10 Songs To Get Everyone Dancing at Your Wedding

Here at bluey and baloo we have teamed up with leading DJ company UK Mobile Disco’s to bring you the top 10 songs that will fill your dance floor at your wedding reception. They have been kind enough to write a blog for us so we can all benefit from their expert musical knowledge.

A wedding is a unique occasion that brings together family and friends from all generations. While this can be a fantastic opportunity to get everyone together, it does present its challenges. How can you keep everyone entertained? How can you keep everyone happy? What music can you play that everyone will like?

In this post we will help you with your wedding playlist by giving you 10 of the top songs that get everyone on the dance floor. These songs will see the 5 year olds and 85 year olds dancing side by side.

  1. Steve Wonder – Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours

This song works on so many levels. Even those young enough not to have heard it before will quickly pick up on the chorus and funky beat. The extra bonus to this song is the words are a perfect fit for the occasion.

  1. The Temptations – My Girl

The 1991 family film My Girl brought this song to a new generation and as films continue to transcend generations many of the children today will have seen this film too. The song is so easy to sing that school choirs still learn it.

  1. The Proclaimers – I Would Walk 500 Miles

A classic for any occasion, revived a few years ago and then parodied by Peter Kay, I would walk 500 Miles will get your whole dance floor marching.

  1. Jackson 5 – ABC

The song really lives up to its name; it’s as easy as ABC. Originally released in 1970 but still frequently heard on the radio and TV, this Jackson 5 classic will be recognisable to nearly all of your guests.

  1. Pharrell – Happy

One of the more modern songs on this list, Pharrell’s super hit Happy was popular with people of all ages when it was released in 2013. It has become a song of epic proportions as barely a day goes by without it being played in the mainstream media. The upbeat tune is so joyful it will keep the atmosphere buzzing, exactly what you want for your wedding reception.

  1. Kool and the Gang – Celebration

The moment the first bars of this song starts, people will start running from their seats and the dance floor will be packed as the first round of ‘celebration’ is belted out in unified chorus between Kool and the Gang and your guests. There also won’t be many occasions quite as fitting for this tune than a wedding so it has to be played.

  1. Mark Ronson Ft Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk

Another song from the last decade, this might be less known by your older guests but as long as they listen to radio 2 they should be familiar with it. The tune is so catchy and has an awesome funky beat to it that is similar to some of the big 70’s classics so even those who haven’t heard it before will feel like they have.

  1. Beatles – Twist and Shout

It is impossible to do a list like this without the original boy band.  This song in particular has all the elements of a perfect pop song. The moves are fun and if the younger ones don’t know them when the song starts they certainly will by the end.

  1. Michael Jackson Thriller

Don’t expect a nightmare if you add this classic Jackson song to your playlist.  At the end of every October this tune is played repeatedly in celebration of the most gruesome holiday of the year. This means that everyone knows it, regardless of age. It is also a lot of fun to dance to and will turn your reception a room full of very well-dressed zombies.

  1. Sister Sledge – We Are Family

What better song to celebrate the diversity and unity of a wedding. As you celebrate the best day of your life with your family and friends, this crowd pleaser will have everyone singing along and the atmosphere will be electric.
